Warp and Weft, a service of World of Oriental Rugs, Inc. Forty years of knowing what a rug is actually worth.

Consignment

We sell it for you.

You keep ownership until it sells. We photograph it, price it honestly, put it in front of the right buyers, and hand you a cheque when it moves.

Antique Kerman medallion rug

Antique Kerman, 9 ft 11 by 13 ft 4

Room size antiques are the hardest thing to sell privately and the easiest thing to undervalue. This one carries a disclosed selvedge repair and still lists at $17,900.

Who consigns with us

Four situations, one process.

Dealers

Slow inventory

Pieces that have sat on your floor for two or three years while paying retail rent. We move them through channels you do not have, without you discounting in your own showroom.

Estates

Probate and estate sales

Executors and attorneys who need documented value and an orderly sale rather than a liquidator's flat offer. We can appraise first and consign after.

Families

Inherited and downsizing

You have a rug from a grandparent, no idea what it is, and a house that no longer has room for it. We tell you what it is before anyone talks about price.

Designers

Client returns and swaps

A client changed direction and you are holding a rug nobody budgeted for. It goes out through us instead of into your storage unit.

Terms

Three numbers, stated plainly.

Consignment goes wrong when the terms are vague. Ours are a split, a floor price and a term length, agreed in writing before we touch the rug.

35%

Our split

Standard rate on the sale price. Drops to 30% above $10,000 per piece, and to 25% on trade consignments of 20 pieces or more.

Floor

Your floor price

We never sell below the floor you set without written approval from you. If we think your floor is unrealistic, we say so up front rather than letting it sit.

180

Days, standard term

Renewable by agreement. You can withdraw a piece at any time with 14 days notice, subject to shipping and any work already performed.

ItemHow it works
Payout timingNet 15 after cleared funds. Not on delivery, not on a 60 day cycle.
Listing and photographyIncluded. Six angle capture set, written description, condition disclosure.
Cleaning before saleQuoted separately, always optional, and always your call. A washed rug typically sells faster and higher, but we do not do it without approval.
Repairs before saleSame. Quoted, optional, deducted at settlement rather than billed up front.
Getting it to usYours to arrange and pay. We publish packing guidance and will advise on any specific piece. Pickup available inside our radius.
Storage during the termFree for the full 180 days. After that, standard Rug Cellar rates apply or we return it.
Price reductionsWe recommend, you approve. Nothing moves below your floor without your signature.
Unsold at term endShip it home at your cost, roll into storage, relist at a revised price, or accept an outright purchase offer from us.

Channels

Four places your rug gets shown.

Rug Vault

Certified listing on the marketplace, in front of buyers who came looking for hand knotted rugs specifically.

Retail showroom

Physical placement where customers walk on it, which is still how most expensive rugs get sold.

Trade network

Designers and dealers who buy repeatedly and know what they are looking at. Fastest channel for the right piece.

Rug Runway

Optional. While it waits for a buyer, it can earn rental income from staging and events, with your approval.

That last channel is unusual. A consigned rug sitting in inventory earns nothing. With your permission, a Grade B piece can be rented for staging or an event during the consignment term, cleaned after every return, with rental income split on the same terms. Your rug pays for itself while it waits.

Honestly

Consignment is not always your best option.

If you need money this month, consignment is the wrong choice and we will tell you that on the phone.

What we accept

We are selective, on purpose.

Yes

  • Hand knotted and hand woven rugs, any origin
  • Antique and semi antique pieces, including with honest wear
  • Room size and oversize, which we are better equipped for than most
  • Long runners, kilims, soumaks and tribal weavings
  • Silk, including pieces needing verification before sale
  • Expected value of $600 or more per piece
  • Damaged pieces worth restoring, quoted before we commit

No

  • Machine made rugs, including good ones. Wrong buyer pool entirely.
  • Tufted and hooked rugs with latex backing
  • Pieces below $600 expected value, where handling exceeds the return
  • Active pet contamination or mildew that has not been treated
  • Anything with unclear ownership or a disputed estate
If you are not sure which category your rug is in, send photographs. That is the entire point of the first conversation, and it costs nothing.

Apply to consign

Start with photographs.

Front, back, a corner and the fringe is enough for us to tell you what you have and what it should sell for. No obligation, no fee for the conversation.

Preview build. This form is not connected yet. On launch it writes to wor.applications with brand warp_weft and opens a record in wor.consignments.
